A fantastic day was had by all at the first PSRA “Spring Thaw” Endurance Race. With 29 competitors forming ten race teams it was clear that racing victory would be highly contested. The race was held at 3 Flags Motorsport Park near Regina Saskatchewan. The riders were met with sunny skies, mild temperatures and excellent track conditions. After a short practice session, the race had an amusing twist on the standard LeMans start, whereby the initial riders were required to reach their bikes with a heel-toe walk across the track. For once, Kevin H’s big feet were an advantage as he was first to get his CRF100 into gear and away with a big wheelie. With the rest of the field in hot pursuit, the race was on. The field included many new riders to the sport of mini roadracing, including: Meagan C, Sarah D, Christina F, Sheldon P, Tom S, Trevor J, Dean C, Quintin B, Jordan M, and Dave A. The field also included a special appearance from veteran retired racer, Johnny (Rocket) Lenz, who also served as riders rep. JL was as fast as ever, so lets hope he stays retired. The bikes ridden in the event were mainly Hondas (CBR125, CRF100 and NSR50). Team “Broken Spoke” and team “Piston Broke” fielded Yamaha TTR’s and team “Kustom Eiz” were mounted on a Suzuki DRZ. During the race, many epic battles ensued. With both male and female competitors the battle of the sexes was apparent, especially when Jay E attempted an outside pass on Heather D, who would not yield her position forcing Jay to take an off-track exit. Proving once again that that the PSRA women riders are a dominant force in the sport of mini roadracing and they really “Can Do It”. But in the end there was a clear race winner as team “Piston Broke” made of a trio of racers from Saskatoon’s race club (SMRA – Emil, Stewart, and Dave) counted the most laps with 130. Team “Race Wired” finished second with 124 laps taking the checkered flag just ahead of team “Johnny Rocket – Robyn Hood”, also with 124 laps. Thanks to everyone that organized, participated, and supported the PSRA “Spring Thaw” Endurance Race. With special recognition to the volunteers for the event that travelled from Moose Jaw, Cabri, and Medicine Hat. Their generous support made this event possible. It was a great start to the club’s riding season. Now it’s time to set our sights on the upcoming round #1 of the CMA Canadian Mini Roadracing Championship Series. This event will be held at 3 Flags Motorsports Park on June 11/12, 2011.
